Our Services
In collaboration with the communities we work with, we build safety infrastructures by weaving together proactive and responsive safety practices.
workshops, Training & Consultations
Pre-designed workshops and training that aim to share tools and skills with communities and organizations to increase individual and collective capacity to support safety and intervene in crisis.
All the workshops and trainings that we offer are meant to be transformative; we strive for transformation with whatever tools we use. Processes can be transformative in many ways: 1) allows people to grow and heal from a space of harm or conflict. 2) allows people to be supported in changing their relationship to the harm that happened. 3) Focused on changing the conditions under which the harm happened.
*We are an abolitionist organization. We are opposed to all aspects of the carceral system and want to establish new ways of thinking about safety in our communities. We chose not to involve the police and ask that all participants do the same.
We are not a rapid-response organization. The intake process can be slow moving because of our capacity.

Transformative Processes
Processes (RJ Circles, community accountability, mediation, etc.) are used to reshape a moment of conflict, harm, or violence. Supporting those harmed and responsible for beginning a journey of healing and accountability.
We cannot guarantee that the person who has harmed will never harm anyone ever again. Transformation of the person who was harmed and the person who caused harm are both at the center of the work. We strive for transformation of all participants.

Event Support
Staffing of Detroit Safety Team members during events (including public, private, in-person, and virtual) to support the safety of attendees, participants and event hosts, and prevent potentially harmful or dangerous situations from escalating for the duration of the event.
Event support we provide may include: Supporting to uphold COVID safety precautions, providing emotional and grounding support to community members, recognizing escalating behavior and providing verbal de-escalation in intervention support for potential conflicts that occur within the duration of each event.
Detroit Safety Team staff will determine the number of members needed to staff an event depending on factors including event duration, type, size, and prior safety concerns.

OUR Pricing Model
Detroit Safety Team uses a Gradient Pricing Model. Combining existing ideals from Gift Economics and Sliding Scale models, we offer various tiers of pricing based upon a client’s capacity to pay. Cost should never be a barrier to entry.
We are able to offer based on this model that those who can afford more pay more do, so that those that are most vulnerable in our communities still have access to our services and our service providers make a living wage.
